License compliance for a Python wheel that uses MAX

Dear Modular team,

I’m building an inference plugin that builds on top of MAX, and plan to distribute it as a wheel on PyPI under Apache-2.0. My pyproject.toml lists max in [project.dependencies], so pip resolves and installs max as a separate distribution alongside my package (the same pattern as packages like unlimited-ocr-max). My wheel itself contains only my own code - no MAX files are bundled or vendored.

I want to confirm my obligations under the MAX License before publishing:

  1. Since my wheel doesn’t contain or bundle any MAX code, do I need to include a copy of the MAX License in my distribution?

  2. Is there anything else I should be aware of for this dependency-only distribution model - notices, labeling, or other requirements?

Thanks,
Max

Because your PyPI wheel only depends on MAX, and doesn’t actually incorporate or redistribute any code or binaries that are under the MAX License, you are free to use whatever license you prefer and you don’t need to provide the MAX License alongside it.

Someone actually using MAX along with your library would be subject to the terms of the MAX License, but the conditions on use as defined in the license are pretty minimal.
