MacOS 27.0 "arm64e.x1-macos" architecture issue?

Hey all. I’m new to all of this so apologies if I’m missing something basic. I updated my M1 Pro Macbook (for the first time in years) and now I’m on the latest macOS 27.0.1 (Golden Gate). The first 27.0.0 release came out earlier this month.

I saw the floki HTTP client during the community meeting yesterday and thought I’d try it out. However whenever I call “pixi shell” in the project, I get an error that… apparently my Mac uses the “arm64e.x1-macos” architecture which is different than what the build script is expecting? I’ve attached a clip of my output at the bottom of this post. It appears this “architecture” is something new with 27.0? I could be wrong though.

It looks like someone else posted something similar a few weeks. Their workaround is that they still had the Xcode 26.5 SDK installed on their computer. I tried installing the 26.5 SDK but got an error that it’s not supported on macOS 27.0, so I deleted it. Maybe I could have still gotten this to work if I just configured some environment variables to point to the older SDK anyways or something…

Anyone else experiencing this or have advice? Much appreciated!

This means that the linker isn’t new enough. We just fixed this for Mojo in a a recent nightly, not sure about this CMake build though. Worth a shot at least.

Thanks Alex for the response! Turns out the solution was incredibly simple… just call pixi update. lol.

I created this YouTube short to capture what I understand of this issue in case anyone else searches “error: unknown architecture arm64e.x1-macos” in the future: https://youtube.com/shorts/pmw8vUKYQhk?si=DW9BhJl-KoABgzea
